San Rim is a cellist born in Toronto and a member of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal’s cello section since 2025. San completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Joseph Johnson and Paul Widner. San is a proud recipient of the Lorand Fenyves Scholarship and Felix Galimir Chamber Music Award from the Faculty of Music at the University. San has participated in the National Youth Orchestra of Canada for 2 summers in 2017 and 2018. Thanks to these opportunities he has been able to perform at various concert halls in Germany and Scotland as well as the entirety of Canada. He is a 2021 alumni of the Toronto Summer Music Chamber Music Institute where he had the opportunity to work and perform alongside prominent Canadian string faculty. In November of 2024 San had the great honor of being invited to play Guest Principal Cello for the Trondheim Symfoniorkester, performing highlights included Debussy’s La Mer, Bruckner’s 3rd symphony and a Norwegian premiere of a choral work by Joanna Marsh. In his spare time, San enjoys cooking new recipes and taking advantage of Montreal winters to skate outdoors. San plays on a Giulio Di. Eugenio Degani Cello from 1911 on loan from a generous private benefactor.
