Dr. David Evenchick has been an approved cello teacher trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas since 1999 and has trained hundreds of cellists to teach using The Suzuki Method.
He has studied with Zara Nelsova at The University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Tanya Carey at Western Illinois University, James Hunter at The Victoria Conservatory, and Tony Arnone at The University of Iowa, where he was awarded the Anne T. Clearly Fellowship for International Doctoral Research.
David has headed cello activities in the Preucil School of Music (Iowa City, Iowa) and the Suzuki String School of Guelph (Ontario), and served on the faculty of Grinnell College (Grinnell, Iowa) and the Pré-Conservatoire at the Conservatoire de Quebec à Montreal. Currently he is faculty for the long-term Suzuki pedagogy at Wilfrid Laurier University and L’Ensemble de Violoncelles de Montréal, and is serving as president of Suzuki Musique Montréal.
His students have gone on to study at prestigious music schools such as Juilliard, Rice, Eastman, Michigan, The New England Conservatory and McGill, and his Suzuki pedagogy course participants are now teaching across the Americas and Australia.
David describes his approach to cello pedagogy as “eclectic,” amalgamating the Suzuki Cello School® with other elements such as the cello materials of Rudolf Matz.
Sine moving to Montreal in 2020 he has rediscovered his passion for downhill skiing.
